The Ohio River Valley Mural was in collaboration for the Huntington Children’s Museum in Huntington, WV and Marshall University design students. We created this design to educate children visiting the museum on the river ecosystem. Throughout the mural they learn about mammals and fish native to the region. They also learn about the importance and value of waterways in our region.
This project took about a year of collaboration between myself and many of my classmates. I proposed my draft of the mural as an assignment and the Huntington Children’s Museum selected it with the notion of combining the design of mine with the deisgn of my peer Alexander Vance. Together we led a team of 6 and created a final mural for the museum and 6 different signs.
Later we were approached by the museum again to expand our original mural to an extra 2 walls. I collaborated with two more peers to continue this expansion. We used the same assets but designed around the water fountains. This new expansion functioned as a part of the mural that educated children who were using the water fountain on where their water was coming from.
This project wouldn’t be possible without the amazing students from Marshall’s School of Art and Design, specifically Alexander Vance, Demi Napier, Olivia Miller, Anna Clay, Aleigha Saul, and Aiko Perry. The support from Marshall’s Student run agency Collective 37 was pivotal
